A lifelong friend came to me about a year ago and confided in me that she is transgender. I was the first person she told, and it’s been amazing to watch her journey as she slowly grew comfortable coming out. Unfortunately, we all know that sometimes comes with negative backlash, and my heart broke one day when talking with her and seeing how it was affecting her. I just wanted her to know that no matter what happens, no matter who disagrees, I love and support her for who she is and so many other people do as well.
I wasn’t sure at first if I wanted to release this, I’ve been very hesitant. We all know there’s nothing more annoying than cisgender people preaching about trans issues or trying to capitalize on PRIDE for the wrong reasons. But when I showed this song to my friend for her birthday and coming out day, I asked her if she’d like me to keep this private or if I should share it. I wanted to leave it up to her, and she really encouraged me to release it.
I don’t want to profit off this. 100% of download sales will be donated to No More Dysphoria - a non-profit organization created with the goal of helping transgender individuals pay for major aspects of their transition.
Finally - this song isn’t solely reserved for those who are transgender or experiencing dysphoria. This song is for anyone who may be feeling down or facing challenges and needs a little reminder that they are loved.
lyrics
If you're thing 1, I'm thing 2
We go together like the fish in the ocean
Perfect shades of blue
But it's okay if you like pink too
If you're the pearl, I'm the clam
I'll provide and I'll protect
I got your back like any other member of the fam
That's just the way I am, because
(Chorus)
I love, I love, I love who you are
I love, I love, I love who you are
I loved you then and I love you now
I love you anyway and anyhow 'cause
I love, I love, I love who you are
If you're the water, I'm the wave
I'll carry you when you're too still to swim
And you're gonna have those days
But I am here to stay
If you're the flower, I'm the stem
I'll hold you high with pride and watch you shine
Over and over again
Don't you ever second guess, because
(Chorus)
I love you as a woman, I love you as a man
I love you in Boston, I love you in Kazakstan
I love you in a dress, I love you in a tux
And if someone doesn't love you
That person really sucks
I don't care what you wear, I don't care who you love
I don't care what your name is, I don't care what you've done
I only really care that you're as happy as can be
And you know how much you mean to me, because
(Chorus)
